Hi All,

Thanks for all the response on my Diesel dumb question. Here's an update:

I did get the car 69' 220D and it is in fairly good shape except for the engine. I added all the recommended stuff to the oil and have added cleaner to the fuel, after a day I have not noticed a change but I feel better.

I thought at first the problem was no power but I have learned that they didn't have any power when they were new. Then at idle I took off the oil fill cap and low and behold it turned into an exhaust pipe (yes, blow-by); now I'm trying to figure out what to do next..... Any suggestions?

Consider the points given in your other responses. If you determine the smoke is from injectors/fuel supply problems, I've heard people advocating the use of a product called "Diesel Purge" by Lubromolly. I use an amsoil diesel fuel conditioner regularly.
