Coil failures are normally just flukes or defects in manufacturing. I can't say about Bosh coils but there are only about two companies in the US manufacturing the old type standard coils and they are marketed under every name. Borg Warner used Prestolite and filled back orders from Standard Ignition. I listed a few reasons for coil failures but I'm sure that there are other types of causes that I haven't experienced. Overheating and spewing the oil out is caused by internal shorts. Cut open an oil coil sometime ............... its educational. Lots of windings and iron bar etc.
