Todd,

Spent a couple of hours on the archives last weekend trying to figure out the same problem on my "88 Westy auto. Try this... Tighten the wheel bearing, see if the noise changes. Mine was loose. I'm sure that there is damage to the bearing which I'll replace shortly. In the mean time, it stopped the noise.
