It is called measure twice and cut (maybe) once - I always measure the depth of the pilot hole and compare it to how long the input shaft is - I take this depth of the pilot hole - subtract 5mm and then cut the input shaft.

My experience is that the ABA, 3A and PF blocks that I have measured are pretty close to, if not the same as a Diesel pilot bearing hole.

Your results will vary etc etc etc.

Measure twice, cut once (maybe) !

<< Hey Matt,

you shouldn't have to remove any material from the diesel input shaft, it's

already the correct length for an I-4 engine. Probably not a big deal that

you have removed some, don't take any more off. Good luck with the

conversion.

Don >> Sorry guys, this bit of wisdom is counter to my experience. Cost me $725 and tax. I used the diesel trans and diesel input shaft, and broke out the 3/4 hub I had replaced 20K miles earlier. The depth of the pilot hole in the crank on the Golf, Jetta etc. transverse mount engine is not as deep as the diesel block. My trans guy had to take several mm from the shaft. My engine was/currently is the RV digifanr from the 1990 GTi. So Matt, measure the depth of the recess in the pilot hole on both engines and the difference is what you need to take off.
