I have a 4x8 utility trailer I tow behind my vanagon. I got it from Harbor Freight tools several years ago. It was about $220, comes in kit form, you assemble. Takes a few hours, but is easy to do. I added plywood floor and some sides that come off. It folds up and rolls into a corner for easy storage. I use it more for hauling junk than for recreational equipment. I have towed probably close to 2000 pounds (gravel) on it for a short distance at low speeds. They also have smaller ones which might be better for your kayaks depending on the size you have. Oh, I have the hitch that bolts to the tow hooks. I also put a graber bike rack on that hitch mount, and it works great too.
