I have many customers who love the .77 4th gear set I have put in during rebuilds...only one who did not, he had an anemic 1.9 westie. Yes... there is a bit more gap between 3rd and 4th, but its seems not to be a problem. It drops 500 rpm or so at freeway speeds. If your gonna run out of poop in 4th gear, your gonna go into 3rd anyway, just maybe a little sooner. Just another option to consider.

Does anyone know whether a five-speed transmission was offered on a = 1982-1984 diesel Vanagon? Also, would like advice on re-gearing the = fourth gear and possibly third gear to decrease rpm during highway = driving.
