My 12V electric coffepot does exactly the same thing.

I wonder if it's not the interface between the male and female parts - perhaps grounding somewhere.

I guess someday when I have no more van projects, I'll tackle that one.

Any Winnipeg listees wanna buy my 12V coffee pot?
