OK everybody. I put the tires and wheels on ebay for $1!

And you can buy only the wheels there or the wheels and tires together.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1827251157

Read the text carefully to understand this auction as you can adjust the number of wheels you want and also can include the tires or not as you wish.

Date: Mon, 06 May 2002 12:20:33 -0400
To: VANAGON@GERRY.VANAGON.COM, Syncro@onelist.com
From: Derek Drew <derekdrew@rcn.com>
Subject: Factory Alloy Rims And BFG All Terrains For Sale

I have for sale 6 BF Gooodrich All Terrain Radial Tires size 27 x 8.50 / 14 and eight to 10 Factory Alloy Wheels for sale. They are located in Washington DC right now.

Make me an offer by email if interested.

There is a picture of them here:

Medium size pic: http://users.rcn.com/derekdrew/vanagon/wheelsandtires/P1001034.jpg
Giant pic: http://users.rcn.com/derekdrew/vanagon/wheelsandtires/P1001032.jpg

You can request any number of the alloy wheels but the tires should be sold together. For obvious reasons it is better to sell the wheels and tires together but I am open to doing this any way you want.

I can ship them via FedEx Ground quite cheaply anywhere.

Of the five tires here they are in this condition:

Tire<x-tab>    </x-tab>Tread Depth

Tire 1: 12 mm (Brand New)
Tire 2:  10.5 mm   (87%)
Tire 3:  9.5  mm    (79%)
Tire 4:  9.0  mm    (75%)
Tire 5:  4  mm      (spare)

The tire #5, which is the spare, is in the upper left corner and you can see a cosmetic blemish on it

These tires sell for $105 normally plus $10 in shipping.

I would prefer it if you can come get them in Washington DC or New York City or I can drop off at points in between but I am open to anything.

I suggest you skip the worn 4mm tire and wait for me to send you the other one from upstate after I get that. That one is in great shape and fairly new like these others.

Background on the wheels and tires:

WHEELS

Have the usual amount of scratches and blemishes but I don't think you will notice too much. The pictures makes the wheels look slightly better than they do up close. Since I am willing to sell these wheels one by one, this would be a nice opportunity for you to stock up inexpensively on that fifth or sixth alloy wheel you always wanted to have around as an extra.

TIRES

These BF Goodrich tires are a legend among Vanagon owners and have incredible traction off-road, in the snow, and I actually believe they are great highway tires too -- *not* too noisy and a great all around tire. In fact, I love them so much, I am switching to this exact same tire in 16" size in my new setup. But you must have alloy rims to mount this size tire (or any rim that is at least 6" wide). The factory metal 14" rims are only 5.5" wide and so are unsuitable to use with these tires. Also, note that these are the pre-KO model of BF Goodrich All Terrain tires, which is a slight alteration the factory made to the tire a couple of years ago largely for marketing purposes. (Note that the pre-KO BFGs and the KO BFGs have slighly different revolutions per mile at 779 and 782, respectively. This difference is only 3 revolutions per mile and so these tires may be safely used interchangeably and intermixed with KO BFGs without aggravating the viscous coupling. (A normal BFG in this size wears about 16 revolutions per mile during its lifespan, so 3 revolutions per mile difference amounts to an effective difference of less than 1/5 of useful life tread depth difference.) For this reason you will have no trouble if later on you need to replace just one tire for some reason.

WHO SHOULD GET THIS?

Well, if you are running a Syncro with factory metal wheels and your tires are not new, and especially if you live in the east, jump on this one. Also, if you are running this combination currently, make me a bid on getting just a single wheel and tire combination. This will give you more flexibility to have an extra wheel and tire around in the future if you should have a problem and you won't be so harried trying to round up replacements.

_______________________________________________

Derek Drew

CEO & Co-Founder

http://www.ConsumerSearch.com/

New York, NY & Washington DC

============================

    Best Consumer Advice Site

    PC World Magazine, Aug. 2001,

============================

    ConsumerSearch is Best

    Newsweek, Nov. 5, 2001

============================

derekdrew@rcn.com

212-580-6486

Alternate numbers for the industrious phone caller that wants to try every avenue: 212-580-6486 (best), 917-848-6425 (cell); 202-966-7907 (Work), 212-580-4459 (Home), 202-966-0938 (Home), 978-359-8533 (fax [efax]).
