I strongly recommend that people use Outlook/Outlook Express only if absolutely necessary -- however not using it doesn't make you immune to many of these worms -- just somewhat less vulnerable. Klez is perfectly capable of harvesting addresses from all sorts of places...the major vulnerabilities of Outlook have had to do with the bad guys being able to cause attachments to be run without the user's consent. But there's a lot of "social engineering" in many of them that attempt to lull people into clicking on the attachments...
