Subject: front heater core

Hi all

Got my front heater core taken apart and cleaned. There is a metal sheet inside the ducting that allows air to only blow over about 30-40% of the heater core. In other words, a lot of the core is blocked off from the air movement, probably rendering it unused. I would like to drill a couple large holes in it so as to get more heat if I choose. Any ideas why I should NOT drill a couple large air venting holes or why this would not give me more heat?
