An '85 has a Catalytic converter after that y. They aren't going to get sucked into the engine, but they are going to very slightly plug a couple passages of the cat. Scrub the visible ones out with a wire brush if you can, and just don't think about those that you can't see... The welds are all near the pipe ends, so there won't be many around the bend.
