speculation on my part entirely, but... I've been on and off this list for
about three years, so hopefully I can do this without fudging it up too
badly...
weekender = fold down back seat. no stove, no cool jump seats, nothing
special except the rear and center seats fold down to make a bed. ( the
model that I have.)
the GL is the exact same as the weekender, only the center seat doesn't fold
down. I've had one of the GLs in the past, and can not tell the difference
between that and my weekender other than the whole bed thing.
Wolfsburg: totally custom designed "living area" this has the "weekender"
bed arrangement, yet behind the driver and passenger seats, there are two
rear facing "jump seats" and a table that folds up from the panel opposite
the sliding door. It's a pretty cool arrangement for those of us who already
own the camping essentials that we need and often carry a few extra people
in our blessed vehicles.
Carat: similar to the Wolfsburg, has short springs on the suspension which
lowers the ride by a full 2". you'll notice a lot of extra plastic trim
around the sides and stuff like that. some of them have the normal GL,
weekender, or Wolfsburg interiors depending on what the original owner
wanted to throw down on the initial purchase.
Westphalia: the pop top camper with the full kitchenette arrangement.
syncro: the four-wheel-drive version of our vehicles. they came in all of
the above mentioned flavors.
from what you describe below in your email, you have the Westphalia also
known as the "westy"
keep it running!

Subject: Different Models
Hi -
I'm confused. What are the differences between the Wolfsburg, the
weekender, the camper, the Westy, etc?
I have an 85 Vanagon GL with a Westy Pop Top and a fridge and stove and all.
How do I know if it's a Wolfsburg or a weekender or whatever?
Thanks.
