my 90gl does the same. it has for years now. i just let her idle for about five minutes whenever she has been sitting for 8-10 hours or more. once a little warm she's a champ. people on the list say "it's this" or "it's that", well, many people have this problem and sometimes it goes away with replacing a plethura of parts and then sometimes you spend a lot of money replacing parts and same problem exists. i just idle my van (i know there are people out there who hate to hear this) for a few minutues when cold and then drive without frustration. that's just me. i love working on my van, i really truly do, but i except some quirks and that is what i consider this- a common vanagon quirk. this problem has never left me high and dry so i don't lose sleep over it. maybe someday when i have a lot of money, i will replace the afm, fuel injectors, all grounds, fuel filters, oil filters, seat cushions, fuzzy dice, and then maybe it will idle normal- or maybe not. i just enjoy my van and never try to worry about her. however, i never travel without my tools and i always have spare parts that i presume will be wearing out soon (i am driving around with a used starter right now).
