I've read Road & Track (if not that it was Car & Driver or something....) from when vanagons were still being made, and one of the complaints was the gas pedal was too stiff. In fact, its the one thing I dread about taking a long drive, even with cruise control it cuts off the circulation of my foot and is of great physical discomfort.

I did find under the archives, I think under "stiff pedal" where someone removed one of the springs of the throttle, and liked it much better.

As far as adding a new cable, are there OEM improvements or something???

So it looks like the options are variable to remedy the pedal stiffness/softness: take away a spring, replace a cable and add a spring, et et.... and can only be arrived at empirically.

>I replaced my accelerator cable for the same reason (sticky). At first the

>pedal with new cable was TOO easy to depress. I like the pedal to have some

>resistance for driving comfort. To remedy this I added a 2nd spring on the

>throttle body where the cable attaches. Now my right foot is happy :)

>New accelerator cable. You can try to lube the old one as well.
