Chris Jordan asked: has anyone towed a automatic vanagon in neutral w/ rear drive wheels on the=20 ground, rolling, for about 100 or so miles? ground, rolling, for about 100 or so miles? My very first Vanagon (w. Auto trans.)was purchased from a fellow who towed it all over the country behind his big motor home. The way he did it was to start up the Vanagon and let it idle as he drove along. This way the transmission has its oil pump running, and everything works fine. You say, but what if......?, and of course you're right. If the engine stops running, you will probably damage the transmission, depending on speed and distance. Still, it has worked for some, and as a temporary thing, I would do it myself. Chuck Hill |
