I've rewired my switch to do this. Interestingly, my reason was because my other car was a Saab too, and I liked the feature. As I recall, all I did was cut the power wire going into the switch for the parking lights, then using one of those blue plastic wire taps, connected that wire to the power wire for the headlights. Now all the lights go off when I turn the ignition switch off. Regarding the need for parking lights, I simply use my 4-way flashers if I need to display a visible warning about how I'm parked. Like I said, "I'm sure there's a good argument for...". My 1999 Saab is setup this way and it has never posed any problems. Start the car - lights come on; turn the car off - lights go off. I never have to touch the light switch. Would like the same simplicity on the camper.

I’m sure there is a good argument for the existing setup, but I would like to rewire the parking lights so that they switch off with the ignition as well. Chris says: Nooooooo! Eric, don't do it! This is a safety feature. It allows you to leave your parking lights on when you're at the side of the road without having to leave your ignition on. Let's say you're stopping at a local pub to pick up a keg of your favorite Warsteiner brew. It's dark, you have your lights on. You stop in the 'loading zone' turn ignition off, and hop out. In the mean time the parking lights stay on to let everyone know you're on a mission. Load up the keg, hook it up to your sink faucet, and you're off! Start up the Vanagon, the headlights come back on and your battery is saved.
