Hi again,

well wheels will fit up front, easy to 8"" and usualy also 8.5". The following offsets are pretty common: 7.5" => 25, 20, 15, 10 8" => 20, 15, 11, 10 (with some wheels 25 will be possible, too) 8.5" => 20, 15, 13, 12, 10

in the rear, the wheels will fit to 11". The following offsets are pretty common: All like the wheel up front an: 9" => 25, 20, 15, 11, 10 10" => 20, 15, 11, 10 11" => 10

Actually, all these wheels (and of couse all wheel sizes in between) will fit. On the rear axle will fit eaven wider wheels.

e.g. Our Vanagon is equiped with 8,5"*17 wheels, offset 13, up front, and 10"*17 wheels, offset 20, at the rear plus 20mm adaptors in the rear (this equals offset 0 in the rear).

Sure, we can make the brakes with nearly every stud pattern. But be aware, that this will change the offset, by at least 20mm per Side. So, if you want to have a wheel equaling offset 20, you will have to choose wheels with offset 40!

I would not recomend machineing the wheels, because this would weaken the wheels, and this could be dangours.

Best Regards

Hi Jens

The wheel & tire dealers here in NZ have NO IDEA what sizes fit the T3 (there are only 50 or so T3s, estimated by myself and another owner, and all are private imports... VW never sold them here). The dealers' tire & wheel catalogs and listings do not include these vans.

Obviously you have experience with these vans. If I am to fit 17" wheels to the T3 (NOT a Syncro), I need to know: -What rim width? 7", 7.5", 8"? -What ET (offset) do I need to correctly fit them to the van without adaptors and without fouling on the bodywork or suspension?

I would probably want a 5x120mm stud-pattern, which is shared with Holden (Australian General Motors) and gives a good selection of rear-drive wheels. Can you do 993 brakes with custom stud-patterns?

The alternative is to machine 2.5mm from the CLK wheels to clear the 993 calipers. Removing 2.5mm all round will give the needed 365mm inner diameter. Is this safe to do with Mercedes wheels?
