Since Pergo is a composite laminate flooring material, splintering would not
be an issue. It does require a vapor barrier and a foam underlayment  when
you install it in a house. The foam underlayment would provide some sound
and temperature insulation. I haven't installed any in the van yet because I
like the vinyl floor with a small area rug since it is very easy to clean,
but it would look very nice.
