Subject: Manual Radiator Fan Switch - Easy To Install!!
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Hi all,

The postings a few weeks ago got me inspired to install the manual switch which I have wanted for a long time anyway. Since I just have removed the A/C on my 87 Vanagon, there was a really easy way to do this!

On the drivers side, above the fuse/relay panel (behind the air vent) there is the "Radiator Cooling Fan Relay 3rd Stage" mounted to the chassis (Bentley 87.5).

There is a yelow/black wire coming out of the relay at position 85 (it used to go back to the A/C compressor clutch relay) which I had cut when removing the A/C (Bentley 97.141).

If you just give this wire power, it will turn your fan on... and you will KNOW IT IS ON!!! (loud as hell). So I put in a lighted switch on the dash, grabbed an "always on" power lead off of the fuse block, and now I can turn the fan on as I sit in the rest area after driving at high speeds for hours... and run the engine a bit, cool things off a bit, and everyone is happy!

I would like to look into placing a timer in the circuit (anyone out there know how to do this???), such that when the switch is turned on (or turned on briefly and then off would be cool) the timer activates and only allows the fan to blow for a max of say, 5 minutes. I just got a sweet new Bosch battery, and do not want to do anything that makes him angry!

Just thought I would share this with the list.

RSF
