Gear is more like $18 and they have a $25 minimum. Order two.

This is super common. Probably not really broken, but instead a gear typically slides out of the way a tad causing it to not work. Palo Alto Speedometer is superb shop to get this fixed at. You can either send them the speedo or you can figure out what gear it is and they'll sell you the gear- cost is something like a buck or two. Replacing the gear yourself is not difficult but not trivial either. Don't let that scare you though. www.paspeedo.com is the place. matthew

I know you can buy a new one from Volkswagen and he can get one from a yard but what about rebuilding/repairing the original unit? Are there any instructions on how to do this or are there any companies that provide this service? > > Thanks, > > Toma
