Yep- Bad MAP sensor will cause you to run rich no matter how to mess with the mixture. I would take it to a dealer or have him take it to a good vw shop and install a new one. Get the part# from peter's web page. Warranty! Oh yeah, first see if changing the mixture has NOTHING to do with this problem. Other thing it could be is a loose distributor which would be changing the timing, but it'd have to move about 1" to be past the automatic-timing ability of the engine. BTDT!

MAP= manifold absolute pressure (or something like that...)

Hobie (a wet westian had that problem). But the good news is that peter can get them to in 4 months flat! matthew
