If he does not know how and where to get the parts, you may want to consider letting him learn on someone else's transmission. He probably does not have the special tools neither. Also, make sure the clutch is disengaging properly. 2nd gear seems to be the first to complain when the clutch does not release right or if the pilot bearing is bad.

Am getting a constant grind every time i shift from first to second gear.(double clutching doesn't help). Wastold by local VW dealerships in Winnipeg its most likely my first to second synchronizer ring. I found someone locally that says he can overhaul it but we both are unsure of where to find an overhaul kit.Am worried that once the trans is all apart buying pieces one by one from the dealer could get very expensive.Am possibly considering buying a rebuilt unit or trying to find a good used. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank's from Jeff in Winnipeg
