<P>Just did this myself! Went through and verified that it was the gauge. Then went to <A href="http://www.egauges.com">www.egauges.com</A> and bought a water temp gauge, t-fitting and 1 more sensor for less than the price of the VW stock gauge. Wired it all in and I am a happy traveler. </P>

<DIV></DIV>&gt;Further to my gauge questions of last week, according to the previous owner, who had the van for several years, the coolant gauge has never worked. He had it "serviced" several times. Each time the gauge would work for a couple of months, and then die again. Now I'm wondering, can I just get a separate temperature gauge and hook it up to the black sensor (the one protruding from the "front" of the thermostat housing)??
<DIV></DIV>&gt;OR...is this symptomatic of some bigger problem?
<DIV></DIV>&gt;The system now seems fine...expansion tank stays full, overflow tank is between the marks, lots of heat etc...
