I have done this several times. The best way has been to use a service station hoist and a large wooden crate sturdy enough to hold both the engine and tranny. Disconnected most everything (including heater hoses, Electrical/Starter, fuel and clutch slave/hose brackets) Marked the exact location of whole assemble on jack and hoist and crate. A few days later I reassembled it all and dropped the hoist and van back down on the motor/tranny and bolted it all back up .... sweet .... no alligning the output shaft while messing with the engine. No two jacks to let the tranny and engine down and up to get them mated.

Only trouble is getting the hoist for the required time.
