Chris,

The fact that you are only seeing the symptoms you describe at a steady highway speed after 1 hour of driving indicates to me that you are experiencing the same hesitation problem that is fixed by the harness sold by VW ($100 + dollars) or fixed with a 22uf capacitor ($1.50) and with some soldering know-how, you can fix it yourself. Check the archives for details.
