That's right. On the advice of the Vanagon archives and numerous postings to marine/yachting listservs I recently decided to try the Penetrol solution to my dull but not shot pop-top gel coat. After puzzling over the difference between marine vs. non-marine Penetrol, I called the manufacturer, the Flood Company, who told me that the products are identical in content, and both are labeled for fiberglass restoration. I purchased a quart in the paint dept at Yardbirds in Santa Rosa for $6.47 and used a small fraction to bring my blue 87 pop-top back to life. Don't do any painting, or rubbing----- Try this first----- Go to a marine ships store, ( Boat US and/or West marine, which both have web sites ) and pick up a quart of Pentrol--- Simple wipe a coat on the pop-top with a rag-----your done. It'll remove all of the oxidation---- It most likely will require a second coat in about 2--3 weeks, but will last a long time---probably the whole summer--- Simple solution---looks real good---shines like new--- Check out my webpage--and my 87---same color as your's----after I did the roof--- Later, Terry
E-mail message Hello all, Like many others I see out there, the roof of my 88 Westy is faded. I'd like to paint it, and I'm looking for tips: -First, I'm assuming there's no way to restore the current paint, as you might with the body by using a rubbing compound. Am I correct? -What kind of paint would I use? -Any particular tips on prep work? -What should I treat the finished paint with to keep it from fading? Any other tips from anybody who has done this project would be greatly appreciated. My paint color, by the way, is Titian metallic red.
