The average owner (probably not doing their own maintenance, probably not a member of this list) wants what's easiest to have maintained by their regular mechanic, or the local VW shop. They're likely to shy away from this type of van because most mechanics won't touch it. Yes, Subu power is better all-around, but to the average buyer, looking for ease of maintenance (not a DIY'er), it is a black mark in his/her book.
