Actually, the '84 Wolfsburg Edition was a whole different animal.  As
opposed to all other years, where the Wolfsburg Edition had _fewer_ features
than a full-blown Westy (lacking the kitchenette and/or the poptop), the '84
Wolfsburg actually offered  _more_ than the Westy of its year. It had the
full Westy kitchen and poptop, but added features that only became standard
a year later (tachometer, cloth seats, even available A/C) - plus a very
sharp two-tone brown and tan paint job that was unique to that model.   This
can be quite a bargain if you stumble on one, as it has most of the
amenities of a late-80's Westy (albeit a smaller 1.9L engine) at a much
lower resale value (dragged down, I suppose, by the fact that in every year
but this one, a Wolfsburg had fewer, not more, features than a full-blown
Westy).  I believe it was introduced in mid-'84 to bolster sales prior to
the '85 model year change.  Listmember Ed Stevens used to have a nice one of
these, as I recall.
