Excellent question. After being pulled over three times, we had some
good chats about how funny it is that we are not really aware of our
rights. I BELIEVE that they cannot search my vehicle without either my
invitation, just cause (see something), or a warrant. But, sadly, I am
unsure of this. I have no idea what the deal is in the US but I am most
interested because I will be heading down to Tennessee (Bonnaroo Music
Festival) in another month. I was planning on taking my van to the
local cop shop to have her sniffed out for previous owner leftovers
before I go. I'm interested on seeing to looks on the cops face when I
request a drug sniffing dog to look over my van. There are numerous
reports in BC of people being charged at the border (heading into the
US) for resin in an old pipe, stems on the floor, smoke resin on the
windshield (apparently there's a swab test they can do), etc. My
travelling mates are so worried, they want me to take my 4Runner
instead. What's the point of having a sweet VW van if I am too scared
to use it to go to a festival?
