Not to defend any bad behaviour by police in Canada or anywhere else but my experience has been to be stopped only twice in 10 years driving my van in every province of Canada over 120,000km. Both times entirely justified. 1. Heading south through NY state - got a very polite speeding ticket from a State Trooper. 2. RCMP got me in Manitoba for 110 km in a 90km zone. Received a polite, good humoured lecture on risking the lives of my wife and other passengers - no ticket - on site sentence consisted of having to agree to buy my wife a nice meal to make amends. Very polite, very effective and a source of unending amusement for my wife, who greatly enjoys telling the story. Apparently I do too.
