Well first are you stock WBX or air-cooled? I can get up into the 5,000's or more like the rest of my inline -four powered friends. Third gear I can go to 5000 easy which is about 70 mph+.

All this additional power (115 hp 2.0 Golf, original Diesel was 48 hp)) brings out the weaknesses in the stock suspension. The sway -bar was a start in the right direction- now for the springs and Bilsteins.

The Vanagon Westfalia porpoises with more power and I was told a long time ago by someone on the list I don't remember that I should upgrade the suspension as the engine puts a greater load on it. This is very noticeable on acceleration the front lifts up . Robert, you reminded me that I pulled onto the freeway following a Tahoe tonight, coming home from work, and as soon as we started accelerating up to speed, I pulled around it and passed it. Just to let you know, some people drive their Tahoe's really slow! An aside here: I am using my passing gear more these days (accelerater to the floor) it seems and it will climb to 4500 rpm before shifting if I let it. What do you all get when you use yours? Bob
