Gotta agree about the drivers in Italy as well as elsewhere in Europe. I spent 3 years in Deutschland courtesy of our Armed Forces in the mid '70s as well as some time in Milan and Rome. Inner city traffic looks totally chaotic until you watch for a while. Those people pay CLOSE ATTENTION to what they are doing! They are really sharp behind the wheel and they drive peppy nimble cars that are responsive and well behaved. After a short time it all makes total sense.

I had (VW content) a '70 US spec bug that would do 92mph flat out on the autobahn and with a tire upgrade to Michelen XZX radials (I just dropped the spare on my westy for the first time last month and was amused to see an XZX again)and stiffer shocks the beetle handled beautifully!

As a rule Americans do not know how to drive.
