Subject: I Cleaned my AFM...
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Volks-

Thanks to 'Mtn Gal's message in the archives about cleaning the AFM.

My 84GL 1.9l WBX had started hesitating and losing some of its power when maintaining speed on the highway. It seemed to occur more often at around 60-65 mph... give it a tiny bit of gas to keep it at speed and it would hesitate.

I can't afford an AFM so I looked up the archives for cleaning AFMs. I chose the path of least resistance and took Mountain Gal's advice- get some QD Electronic spray cleaner from NAPA ($4.99+ tax) and start spraying. I also used a can of air (from my computer) and blew all the dust out of it first. I sprayed the QD on, did a little wiping and then blew it out with the air. I made sure that the tracks were clear, did one final spray with the QD and canned air and closed it up.

The van has been purring along since then (last Wed.) and my mileage has improved from about 22+ to 24+. I'm sure this is a temporary fix but now I can start saving for a replacement AFM.

Again, THANKS Mountain Gal!
