Tim T.,

I've got only 2 weeks on the single application I made, so who knows? I found a few testimonials from others claiming that Penetrol on gel coat lasts as long or longer than more conventional wax compounds. Maybe, maybe not. If you do use this stuff, I strongly suggest that you follow the label recommendation of 5 minutes max before wiping off excess. Otherwise, the solvent evaporates, leaving traces of a vaguely tacky, streaked residue. The idea is to let a little permeate the porous surface, obscuring and maybe arresting the gel coat oxidation. The boat guys and divers I know around here suggest I do a gel coat reapplication, but I'm too lazy. Anyway, the finish on mine is not that bad, and I generally keep it garaged.

Hi Philip,

After using Penetrol, did the nice shine last awhile? Another member said he had to reapply the stuff after a couple of weeks, and thought the top would stay OK through the summer. I'd like to try Penetrol, but only if you get some kind of long-lasting benefit (don't want to have to climb up there every month).

Thanks,

Tim T.
