Hello Derek,

There is an explanation of who Vredestein (sic) are on the following web page:

http://www.tyres-online.co.uk/marketing/vrede.asp

I have copied the following text from the above web page:

Vredestein

Vredestein is the Netherlands' only indigenous tyre manufacturer and continues to operate independently of the major players. The company is of medium size (rated 32nd in the world in 1999).It has been extremely successful in concentrating on a number of profitable specialist niches such as winter tyres and agricultural tyres, but also produces other rubber products such as bicycle tyres, boots, recycled rubbers and rubber sealing systems. One of Vredestein's key strategies is its investment in innovation, focusing on the development of new products and production processes. In the car tyre sector, the product range has been completely redesigned over the past few years and now consists of a clearly defined range covering high performance, standard, all-season and winter tyres. In particular, the company lays emphasis on performance gains made through the use of silica technology. Vredestein, as a smaller brand, does not have the consumer awareness of the leading brands and for this reason is placed in the upper medium price category. During 1999 it tried to amed this situation by launching the world's first "designer tyre", the Sportrac, which carries the name of the Italian design house, Giugaro, as well as Vredestein. In addition, Vredestein is working towards the further internationalization of its organisation and operations. Its daughter company Vredestein Consulting has been set up to establish joint ventures with smaller tyre manufacturers in Asia such as Vredestein FKR formed with Fung Keong Rubber in Malaysia.

I hope this is useful.

Best regards,

Tony
