Agreed- Vanagons aren't as cheap to drive as my old aircooleds were . I went thru so many cheap parts and that's the point- most Vanagon parts last longer or so it seems I am not buying as many. The Golf engine never needs anything . Even the old air-cooled stuff isn't cheap anymore - remember the $20.00 Leistrizt muffler? Or the 25 dollar clutch- gee- am I that old? Reassure our Vanagonless friend that there are so many tires available that the treads will never end!

Robert--

Yea your rich alright----just like the rest of us--up to our neck in vanagon parts receipts--real rich----

Priced parts for any late model stuff lately? A new Denali air shock is 500.00---

For a real laugh---try checking out Benz, or BMW stuff---

A BMW 750IL 4 corner suspension replacement is $7500.00---

So yea, the Vanagon's are a bargain in comparison----but not in any way, shape, or form, cheap----

If this guy is worried about tire prices, and availablity---I'd say--hang it up---right from the get go--

Later,

Terry

Well- I guess that makes me rich! Of course, I do all my own maintenance so right there I'm saving more than half the cost of owning a Vanagon. Priced Honda parts lately? Robert 1982 Westfalia 1987 Wolfsburg Still cheaper than owning a boat ----- Original Message ----- Wrom: YOKSTTZR Sent: Saturday, May 18, 2002 6:08 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Re: all those tire postings Dave, If your low on bucks--run like hell ----- These vehicles aren't for the faint hearted, or cash strapped----!!! Pretty much rule of thumb--if the vehicle says----" Made In Deutschland" the price for parts is triple of what you may be accustom to-- Later, Terry E-mail message----- As a person with very limited funds to spend for a vehicle purchase, I don't want to waste my money if the tires or other parts are not readily available.
