Subject: Anyone ever fall out of the SIDE of a Westfalia pop-top?

Last night, while camping in our 1986 Syncro with a Westfalia 'pop-top' I heard a bit of a 'rrrriiiipp' in the middle of the night. My son and I were sleeping on the top of the van. I figured that it must have been from the van parked next door and I thought nothing of it. When I got up this morning I saw my son's behind sticking out of a 50cm rip on the side of the pop-top canvas! Seems that during the night my four year old son rolled over an applied some pressure to the 16 year old canvas, which then failed. He didn't fall out, but if he did he would have been very hurt as it is a LONG way up there especially on a Syncro with 205R16 tires on it! Has there ever been accounts of people fallout out through the canvas before?

Now, two questions; where is the best place to get new Canvas - I am looking for the original style with the one window in it. How hard is it to install?
