Yea Andrew I'm ignorant---

Especially when it comes to the junk Subaru engines---

Hows the protrding oil sump problems ?

Knocked any off lately?

And how is it that the oil pickups, that just seem to suck dry in corners----?

Reeeal good for the lower end----

Oh--and of course the timing belt issue that never has to be addressed-----another no-problem drawback---

I wouldn't run this, poorly designed, recycled aluminum, garbage truck engine in a go cart, let alone my Vanagon----but some you have your stuck on stupid side--- don't you Andrew----

I'm surprised that you could re-write the word Morphodite----being that you basic vernacular is limited to Subaru----

The rice burner neighborhood have always been known to be imitators, not innovator's, and this engine is a perfect example of just that--they copied the boxer engine----only added a rubber band for the timing mission----and that is a poor idea at best.

You go ahead and bow to the land of the rising sun----- your prerogative---not me----

Maybe the Nisea dumped a load of them toilets there in geographically undesirable NZ--but here in the Heartland of the US--the HUb of industrial America--them Suba-ca-ca's, just ain't in big demand, and parts availability, and dealer's aren't on every corner, and the guys at the parts stores kinda look at you funny when the word Subaru comes up----

In a matter of fact, they laugh out loud---

Stay right in your own little vacuum---use them pre oxidized recycled aluminum beer can engine's, --good choice----

Gag, Cough, Erp, PHOOEY----!!

Just don't go twisting any newbie into thinking that this terrible morphodite selection of an engine / transplant is the answer----because it isn't, and this was a poor suggestion---you were attempting to lead him down the wrong path, and this is just blatantly wrong.

Now if you had any lick of sence, and you would have suggested a TIICO type transplanted Vanagon, you would have been much kinder, and closer to a solution to longevity, and durability----

OH yea---this is really the way to go--- If you think parts availability is bad for a stock Vanagon, go and find yourself a Frankenstein morphodite---- So Subaru parts are hard to find? Methinks not. And since when is a huge improvement (power, reliability, maintenance) a Frankenstein morphodite (I'm surprised you could spell that!). This automatically means that the parts prices drop in half--immediately for all the stuff you might ever need for the rest of the van-- Utter CRAP. There are people out there LOOKING for Subaru-repowered VW vans. They will pay MORE for one than a VW-"powered" one. Availability of parts? No problem---you can pick them all up at your local 7-11, or a Wal-Mart--- In some parts of the world. here I have to send to other countries for parts. Like bumpers. What does a heart transplant have to do with prices, and availability---? It removes the biggest bugbear of these vans... the dreaded VW wasserboxer engine. So (once it's fitted) you don't have to SPEND ANY MONEY on the engine. This is the root of the original question Andrew---- Not how can he screw up a Van in one easy lesson--- *VW* screwed up the vans. Fitting a Subaru engine corrects this. A whole list of owners of Subaru-powered vans will tell you so. Don't keep displaying your unfounded bias and ignorance. And since when are Suburu engine parts cheap--? NOT--!!!! Maybe not, but you wouldn't NEED them. They don't break or wear out.
