If you've ever got up to pee outside in the middle of the night, came back in, and tried to close the sliding door "quietly", this rear handle is a godsend. With one hand on each door handle, you can close the door a little quieter than the normal slam. Your sleeping partner appreciates it a lot. So do the other campers in the campground.

Nope, he's talking about the extra handle at the *rear* of the door on early Vanagons with the heavier door. I've got one on my 82 Westy.

I'm assuming that it is intended to help pull the rear of the door into its catch. It seems pretty unnecessary, and wasnąt on my 84 (the last year for the heavy door). _________________________________________________________
