Subject: Tach Installation
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

I (not the Bus) finally broke down (after unsuccessful clock surgery) and put my hands on a later model Vanagon tach gauge group to install in my 83.5 Tiico Camper. There is certainly a difference in configuration. Front view of my old unit had coolant temp on top, fuel gauge on bottom, clock in the center. New unit has coolant temp on bottom left, fuel on bottom right and tach in center. Rear view has 2 fuel connections, 3 coolant connections, a 3 prong male tach connection (no plug - what a bummer that's going to be to wire!) and a voltage stabilizer on a plate beside the tach. My older one has the voltage stabilizer integrated onto a copper area in the foil. Question is, how do I correctly connect my old wiring "foil" to the new instrument group? Which side is which (sensor grounds out, correct?) on the old and new gauges (the coolant level light is the easy one) and how do I "lengthen" the foil/wire? Any ideas on how to connect the tach. Which voltage stabilizer should I use and how do I integrate it with/into my older 83.5 system? And what the heck is in that little hole under the tach connector?

Any ideas (I can't be the first to do this) on what to do would be very appreciated!
