Don't be surprised if you're mechanic says you need new heads when he pulls them off because the gasket mating surfaces are badly pitted. There goes another $600. If you're exhaust sytem is original, It's likely you'll need to replace the header pipes as well. There goes another $300. Do the repair yourself if you think you can. People on the list can help you out with advice. You can usually fill in the pits with JB weld and sand the head down with fine grit sand paper. It's doubtful any mechanic will do this.
