First motor I ever rebuilt was in my 1970 Porsche 914. Being a dork, and only 18, I accidentally left out a crankshaft bearing dowel pin. 30k later, I was running 105 mph on US 264 between Wilson and Greenville, NC, and about 10 minutes into my little jaunt, all hell broke loose in the motor, and the oil light came on. The bearing floated out of its saddle and the ensuing debris created bending and breaking mayhem in the crankcase. A real mess of many things. I feel your pain. It smelled bad. I leaked oil everywhere. JB Weld wouldn't fix it. A new motor was the answer. Tomorrow is another day. Tonight, let it be Michelob. Pax-- G. Matthew Bulley Mount Olive, NC

Sent: Thursday, May 23, 2002 2:51 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Yum, yum...(what a motor says when eating a rod) Hi, I am rather dejected and need some moral support & direction. Number 3 rod turned into a snack for the crank and was burped out the top of the case last night on my way home. With this lovely new "see through" feature things don't seem to run so well (minimizing, I'm in denial). I have one shop close enough to tow to and they only deal in VOA motors... I don't have the time/tools/experience to do anything else but this option. Is all lost, am I going to lose all my sanity and then some? Any words of wisdom or consolation in my now WAY overpriced Westy would be great. Running with scissors, Brian __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? LAUNCH - Your Yahoo!
