Very easy to do. Two screws hold in the alternator voltage regulator and brushes module. I just recently replaced mine. I had to use a channel lock pliers to remove and replace the bottom screw. I paid $37 for the part from a discount dealer. The VW dealer wanted double that. No need to remove the alternator. Just angle in the new brushes, tighten and you are good to go. If you need a photo of the regulator module pmail me and I'll take a digital photo.
