this is true. i was looking at don johnson's van (90 or 91 syncro westfalia) at syncro de mayo this past weekend and it's a seal in a track, which track is bolted to the frame in front of the door. looks like it would come off, or could be retrofitted. i am going to look into it because my front doorgaps are *noisy* (87 syncro westfalia).
