Go to your local VW dealer with the serial number off of the radio and talk
to the service manager, they should be able to give you the code. When you
get the code, write it on the top of the radio so you can read it through
the ash tray opening.

If you're paranoid about someone stealing a stock 12+ year old radio out of
your van and actually trying to use it in another vehicle, add a number to
the code number, i.e. use 1111 for the number, so the code of 0421 becomes
1532, and write that number on the top of the radio.
