Thanks for for the detailed information. I appreciate it. The shims are intact, as I have had the flywheel resurfaced without disturbing the shims. In advance of your note, I'd made provision for all of the items you suggested, with the exception of the main shaft bearing in the crankcase end. I did order the seal for that pulley end, but the access to the components looks to be difficult, and I am struggling to understand just how to access that three-pulley end. I assume that I will have to remove some of the tin. (The engine is in the vehicle.) I'll revise the parts order to include the bearing you suggested and I'll plod my way through the process.
