Dave,

I installed 5" Pioneer speakers into my 1980 Westy without any problem. As far as bass goes, good luck. I ended up throwing a Pioneer amp under the bench seat and then connecting a 12" bass speaker box to the end of about 10' of wire. That way I can move the bass to wherever it's most convenient. The sound is excellent now. Oh yea, I forgot to mention that I also added a couple of 5" speakers to the cabinet above the rear bench seat. Nice surround sound.

Hi Folks,

I am trying to find out what the largest size speaker (and specific brand?) is (upper) for a 1986 Vanagon Westy.

I'd like to try and avoid installing speakers, down below at my feet, if possible.

Currently, I have the stock, original 4 " ? speakers upper, up front. I'd like more bass and a more robust sound, and hope a bigger speaker can help.

Anyhow, I'd love to hear your suggestions, and speaker recommendations for the upper slot. If I can't enlarge my upper speakers, I'd love to hear peoples experiences of putting larger speakers down below. More bass would be groovy.

Thanks much,

dave bowers 1986 wolfy westy
