No one that I know of includes an installation sheet with the SA grille kit just because it is very simple to install. However to summarize how I install mine, here we go: Remove your old grille Take one of the inner lights and put it where you think it should be and hold it with your hand. Now have someone put the new grille in place. Center the inner light in the hole for it. Now while you hold the light where you want it, have the second person remove the grille again. Mark the four small mounting holes of the inner buckets with a marker or a pen that you will be able to see in contrast to your paint color. Now drill your four small mounting holes with a drill and install the inner light with four small screws (you will have to supply these yourself but they are easily found at any hardware store). Repeat this proceedure with the other side. Now that your inner lights are in place you are ready to wire in these lights. Some folks want to rig up a switch so that they can turn on these lights whenever they want like a fog light. However the stock setup is that the inner lights come on with the high beams. So you want to unplug the wiring to the outter lights. There are two wires that you want. One is the brown wire. This is the ground. You should splice a wire into this one (you can use something as simple as a scotch lock, or something as complex as a solder butt splice with heat shrink, either way will work). On the other end of the wire, crimp on a female spade connector. Now plug this wire onto the brown wire connector of the inner light. The other wire on the inner light is the power wire. You want to follow the proceedure I just described with the ground wire for this wire as well. The only difference is the wire you want to splice it into is the high beam power wire. You can determine this in one of two ways. You can look up the color codes in your Bentley manual, or you can use a test light/multimeter to determine which wire is getting power when the high beams are switched on. Either way, find this power lead for the high beam and splice into it and then plug the other end into the wire on the inner lights. Now install your grille and aim the inner lights. You should be done.

These directions are for an '80-85 Vanagon with round outter lights. If you have a later model van you will also need to get a set of round outter headlight buckets, round headlights of some desciption, and two H4 style electrical plugs (easily attainable at any autoparts store). You will need to cut off the connector for your outter headlights (9004) and splice in the H4 connector. I believe the inner lights can just plug into the exsisting inner light wiring. Then you need to mount the outter headlight buckets and lights and then follow the proceedure for mounting the inner lights. That is it.

I hope this helps.

Folks,

Pls forgive me for not trying to find the answer in the archives ... but currently only have a 14.4K Cell Phone connection.

Just now getting around to installing a SA Upper Quad Headlight Grill purchased several months ago frm Ken at Vanagan in my 85 Westy.

Seems to me this is suppose to be a Plug & Play install .... but now that I have the old pieces off .... this does not seem to be the case. Or at least its not obvious to me.

The new headlight buckets .... seem to need holes drilled and screws to attach .... not a big deal, if I'm correct.

But where do these new headlight lights plug in?

Can't find anything obvious on my original headlight wiring harness.

Help, much appreciated.
