It may have something to do with the earlier style door--different hinge/latch design? My '85 door barely clears as is.

I can't understand how a handle could be on the back of the door, but several posts have said this is the case, so I remain curious.

Based on these three comments, I am wondering if there is a handle that can fit on the rear of the door, without the obvious clearance problems, and where it attaches.

Will those whom I have plagerized below, step up and keep me from looking more insane than I normally am? :-)
