Hi Wade, In an 84 westy I had a similar problem. I ended up taking off the fiberglass luggage rack all toghether. Underneath was 15 years worth of accumulated leaves, dirt, etc... This might help the area underneath the luggage rack drain off the excess water quicker. I litterally had tons of leafs etc that must have fallen of washed into the drain holes, then couldn't drain out underneath the edge of the fiberglass top.

Otherwise a lot of water seemed to accumulate in the rain gutter along the top of the van. All I did was leave the windows up and stop really fast. Then water would shoot out. Then roll the window down and away you go!

Michael VW vanless at the moment...

My '85 Westy seems to like the rain that we've been getting here on the east coast recently. So much so that she's saving rain water in her luggage rack for those not so wet days. Being the sharing type, she's been offering free showers (bugs and leaves included!) to people sitting in the front seats as long as they open their windows and turn her in the right direction.

Are there drains that might be clogged or is this part of the standard repertoir of westy behaviours (If so, I guess I should close my windows when I don't want a moldy, leafy shower)?

Thanks, wade
